    I see no problem with power compacts or just regular fluorescents. As far as which type, I think using what you have currently would be great. For either, although it's more expensive, aquarium bulbs do really look better over an aquarium. Especially for bringing out the fish colors.

    In regular fluorescents, I've actually found that the Coralife 50/50 bulbs look pretty good over tanks, and seem pretty bright in my eyes. They bring out the fish colors, too, especially in Africans. So some sort of combo that includes actinic would be good. With power compacts, I like Current USA, but they tend to make more square pin bulbs than straight pins, so find out which kind your fixture takes first.

    Oh, and your normal fluorescent fixture is probably for T8s, which will also take T10s and T12s. You really can't go wrong there.  :)
