  • I have mosquito larvae in my 10g RCS tank. Ugh.

They look like dragon flies without the wings and all they do is squirm up to the surface and squirm down to the bottom.  I've counted three so far.  I guess I need to check my HOB.  The water flow has gotten slower and slower.  I know how to clean it but where can I get replacement impellers?  I have a Tetra T2 model that came with the 29g tank and I wanted to replace the impeller and put it in the 10g.

I bought a replacement that was "almost" the right one and it couldn't get the water up the tube and keep a flow going.  I filled the filter with water first but it didn't help.

Is this a "head" issue?  (No, I'm not being caky with that last comment.)

Impellers come in different length, with different size magnets and different size paddels.
I like to use the same size magnets & the next size up paddles.
A test tube brush is great for cleaning out the impeller housing but
I usually toss everything (except the motor & the filter pad)  into a bucket of bleach
The biggest problem I have with not being able to start the suction is air leaks in the incomming tube.
Usually a bit of plastic electrical tape on the male thread piece will make the connection air tight.
The secondary problem is that the input tube is not seated properly, Press it down firmly.
To get water flow (suction) the water level in the filter must be above the top of the impeller.

I'd rather let them mature and fly away than drive to Tejas City for some fish.  haha. no offense.  But fishies like to eat the shrimpies.

I'd just net/scoop them out and put em in another tank that has fish in it...
