If you could get it in a solid form it would probably really good.
I would bet its applied in crystals suspended in liquid form... and might not be available with just the crystals

It is available in 2 sizes. Fine like sand and less fine like small gravel and is quartz with baked on coloring and is also inert in water.

I think I heard of a LFS that had it. I'll have to check.

Here is something I cut from the 3M website.

"3M created Colorquartz Crystals by melding the strength of nature with the power of technology. Quartz, one of nature’s hardest minerals, is bonded with an exterior ceramic coating. This coating – which contains inorganic pigments – gives each Colorquartz Crystal its brilliant color and durability.

The color resists bleeding or fading, even when exposed to harsh sunlight, strong pool chemicals, and acid washings. The durable crystals, dispersed throughout your pool finish, withstand chemical wear and mechanical abrasion."

I was wondering about any experience. It's supposed to be a little expensive but heavier than sand and doesn't clog up filters or hold gases like sand. I was definitely thinking about getting some and trying it out.

It sounds very interesting, and I'm kinda bogged down my red tape again with my sand order....keep us posted.

I read the information on 3M's web site several months ago before I bought the white sand from CF. It would be nice to get a sample.

I have the black in three of my tanks and really like it.  It packs down pretty much the same as sand.  I got mine at a pool tile supply off of 290/Hempstead and 43rd.

I don't know if this information is current or not:
