everyone thank you for your kindness. found out that there is still no power at my complex, but may be returning tomorrow, not sure what time. Still here in Austin, when I return, I may not have internet acesss for a while. I thank my friend Patrick Boone in Austin for his hospitality and kindness. No fish here though.

Man, I wish I could take home the trio of golden desert gobies I sat at Amazonia Aquariums today. Very nice Austin LFS. Anyone have any tips on what to do when I get home and remove all my dead prized fish, in the unlikely case there are any survivors?
I know a water change is needed, if water is back on. I know they said to boil water, IF THERE IS ANY POWER TO DO THAT WITH IN THE FIRST PLACE, but that's unlikely. How about adding extra dechlorinator? I have concentrated crystalline powder that is also labeled for ammonia removal and I have melafix as well. Should I clean off the filter pads? Thanks. 8)

Nick - why don't you let some of us help you out.  Either load up the fish in buckets and bring them to those of us who can house them while you get your tanks back in order, or let us come out and help you?

Shoot, if you don't have water, we can fill up every cooler, barrel and bucket we have to bring some to you!  I'm not kidding, Nick.  Seriously, let us help.

There is no way you'll want to use the current filter media if it's been sitting in rank water for days.  We have that as well.  We have filter sponges, pads, ammo-chips, and a DIY Carbon bottle we can run all the water through before using it.  We can even bring a canister filter or 2 to filter the hell out of the water.

Do you have our number??

Fish I expect to still be alive:
Bichirs, climbing perch, the lesser siren, and the mangrove killifish. Maybe the cherry shrimp and white crawfish.

I expect, (and would be happy if they did not), all my cichlids (SA, african, chromides, and hybrid), most of my CAKs (the plecos of all types, corys, porthole, flagtail, synodontis (eupterus, negrita, angelicus, and occellifer, the giraffe cat) the fahaka, neon, and red eyed puffers, the livebearers whose name I won't speak, the khulies, botias, african mud fish, and jade gobies among others to have perished.

I know the turtles are ok, though their water is going to smell!

If there is still no power I would definitely clean the filters....nothing but ammonia pumping out of those now.

Water change but be weary of the water so if possible allow water to sit aerated with de-chlor if possible.


A few friends have ammonia showing up in their tanks already, they've been running aeraters. I have been able to sustain my fishies with excessive water flow from the tunzes.

I'll take test kits over and we can check the water, and otherwise we can use the water from over here.  It's ammonia free.

My cell SUCKS!!

I have (2) 150Watt powerinverters, that will power about 8 filters or 6-8 powerheads EACH. I got 200ft of extension cord to go with them.  You'll need to start your car/truck probably every hour for about 5-10 mintues, or just leave it running.

I have (2) Marine Deep Cycle Batteries with (6) 12V powerheads that will last 30 hours running 3 pumps each.

I also have electricity with floor space.

Bring your tanks, and filters.  I got a couple but thats it.
