I finally got power back late this past Monday afternoon, but it didn't really count till I got air conditioning back late Tuesday. Storm knocked my outside unit for a loop and it ruined the compressor, lying on it's side, head down like that. Who knew? I thought I could maybe set it back up and it would work, but no. Big bucks. Hoping insurance will pay for half, at least. I spent most of the 9 days switching around bubblers and extension cords from the generator to an assortment of fans, the fridge, and the power strips of the fish tanks. Seems like the fish did pretty well, thru it all. I know the plants can't have been getting enough light, but they don't look bad so far.  Started back to work the Tuesday after the storm and that made it a little harder to keep up. Its sure enough to make a person feel like they have too many fish tanks !  I swear I'm going to get down to 2 ( or 3) when I build that smaller retirment house !  I was grateful to have the generator, but soooo tired of taking care of it and hauling gas for it ! I know I was lucky to have damage that was a fast fix, even if it was kind of pricey.
I haven't done any major water changes yet. I was a little worried about them dosing the water supply with extra chemicals. Anyone have any worries on that score?

Polly...I'm also in La Porte and have had no problems with water changes using treated tap water.  All of my fish are fairly tough, so I don't know if it would be a problem for more delicate fish.

Hey guys, this post really has me wanting to cry. Well, I still have no power, lost most all of my fish, all my plants & cold showers really suck buttt!!!!!! My house has no damage so I am very gratefull for that. I have been working 14 hr days, so at least when I get power back I can start to rebuild. I miss my little guys so much. Today I went to FG just to watch some fish swim around. Hope to see everyone soon.

No power yet.

Power was restored to my block Wednesday night at 11:30pm.  My Meter was repaired that Wed. afternoon, but lines are cut.  So, I have to wait for them to re-run the lines to my house.  

Frustrating to say the least.

Wow, I sure have missed HFB!

I lost power on Friday at about 7 or 7:30 - I think it was even before Ike reached land.  Heck, it was still light outside - I was still trying to secure everything in the backyard.  Didn't get power back til this past Wednesday (the 24th).  Lovely cable company still hasn't restored cable, and the breaking point came today when I called them and they estimated 2 weeks until service.  So I stopped at AT&T and signed up for broadband.  Which would be even better if my laptop hadn't forgotten who c:\ is .  Thank God they come in USB tho, so I installed it on the desktop tonight.  I got so excited when I actually saw my homepage (HFB) pop up, that I nearly peed my pants!  

I'm fine tho, fish are fine, cats are fine, frogs are fine, worms are fine and to top it off - my mosquito farm is producing like mad!  I did lose 2 trees, and one hit the front corner of my house.  Lost several shingles, one side of my back fence, and lots of big limbs still hanging over my house.  Hope those fall before the insurance adjuster gets here.  Dead tree still standing - funny how that works...  Also lost my patience with all those guys coming to see if I want to give them 500$ to remove the trees.  So I bought a chain saw.  Which I hate.  I am going to exchange it for one I hope I will like more if I can manage to pick it up and put it back in the case without tossing it out in the street first.

Generator performed like a champ - neighbors occasionally provided fuel so they could tap into it to run fans at night.  Sure was strange to sleep without it's familiar loud drone in the background.  I may have to record it and loop it for continuous playback at night just so I'll remember how much to appreciate it. All kidding aside though, it's one of the best investments I've ever made.

I sure missed you guys  :)

glad to hear that your okay Spot....and all is well with all your babies....
now about that mosquito farm you have going over there..... 8O
those are just country one's right?.....  they don't like the city right?... 8O ....
if you need any help with a chain saw just give a shout i'll be glad to come over and give you a hand with it..... :wink:

Well good news< My power came back on on friday night!!!! looks like I might need to be a member of CAK now since thats mostly what I have left. The good news is that the zebra shrimp took advantage of the lights being out & will be parents soon!!!! hope all is well!!

I'm back!

We just got power today, thank God!  Thanks to my wife too.  We stopped by late morning to check the house and fishies and as we were leaving my wife saw one of those big utility trucks the light company uses pass by.  She told me to follow that truck and I did.  It stopped 2 blocks down and my wife got down to talk to the guys.  They didn't have our work order but said that after they finish there they were gonna have lunch and then stop by to see if he could help.  2 1/2 hours later we had power...  :bsty:   Keep in mind that we called since the 22nd to tell them that the meter that had been pulled off our house had been repaired but kept getting the run around..."Sorry no eta" and I love this one "All orders have been put on hold due to all workers dedicated to restoring power in other areas".  

So any way, I'm happy.  We had alot of mess to clean up.  Only lost a handful of fish since losing power over two weeks ago.  

Many thanks to Geoff, thank you man for lending me your bubblers...my fish owe you their lives.  I also want to thank everyone who offered assistance to me and my family and my fishies.  It was frustrating with no power but we know we are very fortunate and we've thank the man upstairs over and over.
