They are both good products but I prefer Purigen and it's magical abilities.

EK   I am gonna go get some purigen this weekend... the canister filter I have on it now... has nothing but a couple sponges in it to filter big particals... this could just be making the big poop into micro poop and it is just circulating thru.... thanks ..Cope...

it sounds like an algae bloom to me.  Do you have a uv sterilizer on the tank.  if you dont then get one.  i think that should clear up the problem.  or use a diatom filter.
