  • Where To Buy Tanganyikan Decorations?

The title says it all. I'm trying to leave the faux exotic look of aragonite and holey rock in search of something more authentically Tanganyikan.

For substrate I'll probably do some PFS from Leslies.

As for the rocks, that's where I'm stumped. I've looked at pictures and seen videos of the lake bottom, but I'm still open to suggestions. I'm thinking something more brown, with fewer if no holes in it, that I can stack to makes caves from the crevices in between the rocks.

When it comes to the background, I'm still debating, but once everything else is done, I might get one of those nifty moldable 3D backgrounds to drop in.

So really, it comes down to the rocks. Suggestion on which LFS's, or even Home Gardening stores to check out? Thanks!

J&J Nurseries which is about .5 miles past ultimate fish towards I-45 is an awesome rock place, they have like 20+ different types of rock, and alot of it. they have they really big mexican river pebbles, like delock was selling, for 30cents alb. and manyy other types. they are always first on my stoplist.

Thanks for both replies! I actually will be right up the road from Ultimate fish either tomorrow or Sunday, so I'll be sure to check it out.

I have seen some good pictures of the rocks in Lake Tang and believe that finding some to replicate it is not hard.
Other then that all you have is the PFS like substrate in some areas and then the Neothauma shells.

I think the closet look you'll find to the rocks and crags of Tanganyika is going to be in Petrified wood, or some other solid limestone boulder.

The Holey rock is limestone, but its what has been cut by ground water to have the hole.  The pieces submerged in a lake are not going have holes, they just boulders.

I've always thought the '50s style Modern Art would be a real eye catcher.
You could do it with Concret roof tiles or clay pipe and a little paint.
              a real eye popper.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
