  • middle brace

Hey gang a buddy of mine just picked up an 200 gallon tank. Awesome tank but he problem is the middle brace is gone. Seems it may have broken some time ago but in the place of the middle brace there is an metal beem so to say. The been sits over the tank and keep the middle section from bowing. He bought the tank from an divorce man who was selling it and said the tank belong to his wife but he is getting rid of it.

I know I can have the inside clean and replace the middle brace but what other option could my buddy go with, I tried the glass route on an previous tank and it didnt go so well for me.

thanks for reading, also if this is the wrong board for this pls have it moved.

    thanks.
oh that........ thats just my 300 gallon fish tank, nothing fancy.

    Re: middle brace

if he doesn't want to keep the metal brace, yall could try to repair the center brace.  or put in "euro bracing"  which is a strip of glass a couple inches wide that runs the whole length of the sides.

there are guides on the internet on how to do  both types.

I like the euro brace idea....in theory, but it seems like it would be difficult to secure while setting up???

yea, i have tried the glass bracing. sort of difficult when measuring to have the glass cut. Have to have the right amount of space in between the glass to allow the glue to get in cure.

im sure the metal brace would hold I guess just an eye sore sort of thing.

        thanks gang.

maybe you could build a canopy that hides the metal brace?

            Re: middle brace

a soft thin piece of sheet metal might do the trick, and you might be able to hide it under another piece of smoked glass or something. This doesn't seem like a daunting task if you take your time and look at multiple options.

            Good Luck

yea it has an canopy but its half and inch too short.

the sheet metal is an good idea, That would allow more with.

              thanks gang.
