Does this really help in cycling the tank like some places I've read?

it is suposed to be shipped with live bacteria in the water, and if t was just packaged, and you bought it right off the shelf when it got shipped. then its possible it could help. but if its been there a while (as in several weeks) then i dont believe it will help all that much. it could be more commonly assumed to do so because it s used almost exclusively for planted tanks, which tend to cycle much much faster.
