I think the dark color is a trademark of Wild Caught Chimba's, the one's I had here at the warehouse were almost black in color, but then, the substrate was black sand, and the back of the tank was painted black. It's no wonder the fish were black as well.

But again, if you check out FishLady's colony, her's are mostly F1's from my old colony, and they are bright orange and reddish brown color.....

yea, i have notice and difference from pics of other F1 chimbas, funny thing is my neighbor received some of th same batch that mine came from. He keeps his over dark subsrate and they hav coloredup nicely with out the sand.  Here i an pic i as able o snap tonight. hope you guys like, sorry no WC in these, will update once sand is added. I acutally have one F1 that is an dark reddish, looks really good. He seems to be the male because out of the 12 that i have he and another resemble h same color and behavior. I would say they are only a few months old and already shaking at one another.
        oh well, good for them.
        enjoy

            WC or F1000.... doesn't matter.

Quality stock is quality stock and from their it's what you make of it.

does your neighbor have gray/dark rocks and algae also? Kind on interesting how yours are darker than his and they all came from the same stock. Could it be a water condition issue?

                    greetings all,

the sand has been added and the chimbas have brighten up.  The head is still dark powder black but their body has the classic red chimba color to it. My F1 look great, it seems the males have really colored up.

Will post pics once all the sands settles and I can get an good pic. These monster must be pretty aged then jugging by there color.

This is now, one of Screename's chimba's (from my 1st troph colony).....this particular female just spit over a dozen fry behind that holey rock.....this was back in June.

That is a mix of white sugar sand and argonite.....and a small light gravel mix.

yup, that looks about right. i have two about that color, maybe three. The larger ones closer to the 5 inches are really dark in the face. I  may check ultimate fish, he had some WC for 19 bucks last time i was in there. I want to increase my numbers in this colony. I have 8 WC and about 11f1, WC are not parents of the F1
