I have a problem with a couple of my aquariums. Since Ike, when I had a broken window and opened my doors for fresh air - I have had some mosquitos. They are breeding in some of my tanks. Other tanks the fish eat them, but in some of my tanks with smaller fish, fry or inverts, they are breeding. There is water flow, and often airstones agitating the surface, but nonetheless, I have breeding mosquitos. I am tired of getting bitten. Any helpful suggestions?

Re: mosquito trouble
Are these open top tanks? Can you seal the surface of the water from the "open" air?Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Re: mosquito trouble
You should be able to see the larva wiggling on the water surface. Any way you could just scoop them out? I know...tedious, but I can't think of any other way that wouldn't hurt your fish. Our Fishhouse

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Guppies or a single betta will take care of the mozzies good.

I vote for the add mosqito eating fish to those tanks temporarily.
a guppy or 2 in each tank probably wouldnt bother your shrimp very much.
white cloud minnows probably wouldnt bother the shrimp much either, not sure if they would eat the skeeters tho.
