? About Needle Nosed Gar

hi, i am looking into purchasing a Needlle Nosed Gar for  my 75g oddball tank. anywho, the tank has an open top, and i was wondering if their would be a risk of these fish jumping out of my tank?

are these f ish jumpers, if so i need to know, as i will be buying a couple tomarrow.

Brackish! Maybe a companion for your Red-Lined tribal puffer. They are SERIOUS jumpers and finicky eaters. Usually, they will only eat live food that is near the surface. They are related to needle fish, which I have seen when I have been fishing at Galveston in the past. I think you should reconsider.

Crap, they are brackish to :(  i saw them at petsmart, and thought they were probably the coolest fish petsmart has ever gotten in! oh well, i guess i will stick with the Black Ghost Knife, Dino Bicher, Red Hook Silver Dollars, Feather Fin Cat, and African Climbing Perch. 8)

i just thought it would be cool to have a fish eater in the tank  but i dont want to get all attached and then it dies, thats why i asked

Yes, I have seen them kept in freshwater, but like your puffer, they do better in brackish.
Most of your needle or cigar shaped fish are going to be jumpers. The bichirs and climbing perch should also kept in covered aquaria as well.
I keep various bichirs with my Asian climbing perch and they do well together.

also do you know of anyone selling any exotic bichers for a decent price?

i cant find any bicher other than dino's, i really want an ornate bicher, and they are expensive, but well worht it imo.
also i would like a polypterus endicheleri(sp?).

you need to take a trip to Fish Gallery....they are a tad expensive like Alex's place but they have alot of so cool things there.... :wink:

I have gotten young Endlicheri Bichir, and Delhezi Bichir at Fish Ranch 2 in Sharpstown lat year both under 20.00 when HLA had meetings there and members got a discount. This was when Marauder used to work there. I have not seen them since. When Mikewhotroung closed his shop, I got an ornate bichir for a good price, though this one has scar from a healed bite wound on his left side. I call him "Gimpy"!

it's gorgeous...i was in there this evening oogling it.....
but they do have some very nice fish in that store.....you'll be very pleased to have gone to look.....i assure you.....

I like bichirs. They remind me of prehistoric mosasaurs.
