  • IS THERE A CURE FOR "BLOAT"?

I NOTICED THAT ONE OF MY AFRICANS WAS A LOT FATTER TODAY THAN YESTERDAY AND MY BROTHER INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS "BLOAT". I WAS TOLD THIS IS DUE TO OVER FEEDING OR AND ABUNDANCE OF PROTEIN.  HOW DO I REVERSE THIS PROBLEM?

      Yes - CLOUT

      Malawi Bloat
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

You can also try adding some Epson Salt to the water.  It will help if he is just constipated, and also help reduce any fluids he's retaining.

Re: IS THERE A CURE FOR "BLOAT"?

i thought that "bloat" didn't actually cause your fish to bloat up until the very last stage at which it is already too late to save the fishy. can someone clarify.......EK?

clout and metrozinadole 'metro' are common remedies along witth epsom salt . i add epsom salt to my troph tank every water change not only in the hope that it will ward off bloat but it also raises the hardness of my well water.

Bloat is a symptom, not really a cause.  So, depending on what caused the fish to swell up, you may or may not be able to save them.  I've had a handful of Tropheus swell up and recover with treatment.  One even took about 6 weeks to recover fully.

If I'm not mistaken he is talking about fronts.....but people are now talking about trophs.....

bloat in the two fishes are totally different animals to deal with.

How are they different?  Wouldn't you use the same meds for both fish?

Mj is mistaking float for bloat... malawians and trophs share similar problems of bloat.

Fronts have float which is a problem with their swim bladder as well as bloat.

the fish i'm referring to is a "stoney" cichlid.  His name is actual Stoney.  He swelled up one night cuz i think i fed him too many blood worms, but then i poured some epson salt in the tank, and he poo'd everywhere.  Now he's back to normal, but no more blood worms!! oh, EK i've never heard of "float" in my Fronts. Everyday i have to research new stuff about my fish i didnt know.  Thanks for the help.

Oh, i have a new 29 gallon tank....any suggestions as to what kind of fish to fill it with?  I already have an african tank, an angel tank, and a Frontosa tank......
