Re: 50G Hexagon Community Tank w/ Pics

    looks really good man.

A couple notes on the dojo loach...
From the reading I've done they do better and are much more active in groups of 3 or more.
In my tank they pretty routinely dig up my corkscrew val...
Also the Dojos can get up to 9+ inches. (the gold ones dont get as big.)

cool thanx for the info, i thought they only got ~4"
i have decided to do an oddbal tank with this
      i will be adding -

      1x Leopard Ctenopoma(Spotted Climbing Perch)
      1x Leaf Fish
1x Needle Nosed Gar ( i know they do better in brackish, but i have had them in the pas in pure fresh with great success.)
      1x African Butterfly Fish
      and
      1x Wood Shrimp

i changed some stuff around to give more cover, it was to open for my taste.

heres an updated pic of the new scape -

heres a pic of the full setup w/ stand -

Looks nice. What sort of filtration are you running? Do you think that will be enough room for the gar?
        Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

i am running an eheim 2215 canister and a large hydor sponge filter.
i think it will be enough room,
i have kept full grown adults in 29g tanks with no problems, if the gar ends up needing more room, my aunt said she will take him and put him in her 135g, with her school of red hook silver dollars, so i have a backup plan

glad you like the stand.  Kim spent hours sanding the old finish off and applying the polyurethane stain

I would think the needlenose gar would need more swimming space, as in a LONGER tank. I don't think it will be happy in the limited space of a hex. Just my 39 cents.

From my limited experience with Needle Nose, they kind of "hover" for the most part....not really big on swimming around alot....???

PS...thanks for the credit Brian, actually that was my first shot at a entire reseal, if it ever does start leaking, let me take care of it for you.

yeah, but he'll be hovering in such a small surface area. Imagine several in a longer tank. That would look nice.

yeah, but i had him for a long time, about 8 months, and i bought him at ~6".
but i thought that was as big as they got.
btw all i ever could get him to eat was rosy reds.
is this all they will eat?
or can they be conditioned to eat frozen foods?
i tried to get my old 1 to eat frozen Brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen bloodworms, and even frozen silversides, and he never took to any of that.
