I am planing on makin a wet/dry filter myself for a 200 gallon somebody has to have done this befor I need ideas thanks

Simple...

Call delock.
Drive out to ADG warehouse.
Hand delock a few dead presidents.
Leave with a beautifully crafted Wet/dry and even pump if you need.

From what I saw today.... you would leave spending less then what materials would cost.

BUT if you just want the experience of doing it....:)...

I've made the one using Home Depot buckets and an old 30 gallon tank.

Supplies:
- 2 Home Depot buckets
- 1 bucket lid
- A drill with a 1/2" spade bit
- A Dremel

Drill a bunch of holes using the spade bit in the bottom of one of the Home Depot buckets.  Cut the bottom off the other bucket about 2" from the bottom (I used the Dremel with a cutting bit).  Drill a bunch of holes in the bottom of this bucket using a smaller drill bit (this will be your drip plate).  This next part can be much fancier, but my hoses coming from my overflow are corrugated so all I did was cut a hole in the lid sized so that I had to work the hose in and it would be snug.  It caught on the ridges so I didn't have to worry about it popping out.  Fill the bucket with your biomedia, lay the drip plate on top, fasten the lid, and drop it in the sump...mine was just the right size so that the edge of the bucket caught the lip of the tank I used as the sump, so it didn't rest on the bottom.  Add pump and voila!

geekgirl has it right. bio media is nylon pot scrubbers from the $1.00 store. over flow made out of 1" pvc. show up at the GHAC meeting at my house and I will show you. can be made for less than a few dead presidents. But Delock gets some real good deals.

Wet/dry keep your oxygen exchange up in your tank which is good for the fish.....

I took out my wet/dry sys and put a 20 gal tank w/ a home made canister filter. My question is: why is wet/dry better?

1. They can handle a much larger bio-load.
2. Heater can sometimes be placed in the sump.
3. Less maintenance than cannisters or hob filters.
4. I get more surface agitation with the return line on my wet/drys.

seem to have enough air. the canister is in the 20g sump. Like i said, homemade. probobly not a true canister, but the return is not affected from the way its set up. It uses gravity not pressure.
