Re: how to make a wet/dry filter
BUT if you just want the experience of doing it....:)...
I've made the one using Home Depot buckets and an old 30 gallon tank.
Supplies:
- 2 Home Depot buckets
- 1 bucket lid
- A drill with a 1/2" spade bit
- A Dremel
Drill a bunch of holes using the spade bit in the bottom of one of the Home Depot buckets. Â Cut the bottom off the other bucket about 2" from the bottom (I used the Dremel with a cutting bit). Â Drill a bunch of holes in the bottom of this bucket using a smaller drill bit (this will be your drip plate). Â This next part can be much fancier, but my hoses coming from my overflow are corrugated so all I did was cut a hole in the lid sized so that I had to work the hose in and it would be snug. Â It caught on the ridges so I didn't have to worry about it popping out. Â Fill the bucket with your biomedia, lay the drip plate on top, fasten the lid, and drop it in the sump...mine was just the right size so that the edge of the bucket caught the lip of the tank I used as the sump, so it didn't rest on the bottom. Â Add pump and voila! Our Fishhouse

Re: how to make a wet/dry filter
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

2. Heater can sometimes be placed in the sump.
3. Less maintenance than cannisters or hob filters.
4. I get more surface agitation with the return line on my wet/drys.150G Tropheus Moorii Ilangi
