I just got a good deal on a used 110 gallon oceanic, but the glass is very cloudy on the inside. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean it? Thanks for the help!

Re: Cleaning cloudy glass?
If you're in no hurry to get set up, I'd fill the tank with water and add a gallon of vinegar to it...and let it sit for a few days....I haven't tried this fix yet, but I'm willing to bet it would help a great deal to remove the cloudiness. I don't believe 100 to 1 that it would soften or damage the silicone, but don't take my word as gospel here...
Good Luck....let me know if you try it, I'd be very interested in knowing how well it worked or did not?
Thanks

Re: Cleaning cloudy glass?
The warmer vinegar is, the faster the chemical reaction (warm not hot!). Also, you can buy vinegar in different strengths so you may want to note that as well. You can then try fancier organic acids or even HCl (many will warn you away from such things). When all else fails you can grind with a fine grit followed by polishing cerium oxide, but that's a lot of work. Yes, keep us posted on this adventure!

Re: Cleaning cloudy glass?
I'm lazy, I use Kaboom.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: Cleaning cloudy glass?
You know I am sure that will prolly take it out.. its a kill alkaline product and removed limestone / calcium buildup quite well.. so I am sure that it prolly will take care of tank glass too..
Just make DAMN sure that you clean and rinse out your tank VERY well afterwards.

Re: Cleaning cloudy glass?
I have had good luck with KABOOM shower, tub & tile Cleaner in the soap & cleaner aisle at wally world and other bulk retail outlets.
It is an organic acid & surfactants
They recomended that you use safety glasses & gloves and don't drink it (DUH)
be sure to rince with plenty of water (check your pH)
After rincing, I always add a little extra HYPO'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'

Re: Cleaning cloudy glass?
a few years back i bought a 60g (48x18x16) tank, it had HORRIBLE calcium buildup, but from being a saltwater setup.
i used 59.5g of tap water, and the rest i used 2 quarts of mild vineger, the kind you would use to rinse out a coffee pot.
i poured in the vinegar, and swished it around to mix it with the water, after 5 minutes of mixing, i let it sit for 72 hours, came back, drained it, 90% of the way, and used semi course sponge on it, and it came off pretty easilly, but there ws still little hard places, those i sed a razorblade on. that atnk was like brand new afterwards, thet silocne tokk it like it was nothing, i had that tank setup for 2 years, before i sold it. but rinse very well! i caanot stress that enough.
after rinsing, let it dry in the sun for 24 hours. rinse thoroughly again, and dry, then set it up.FRENCH FRY!!!
