125g Discus Tank

Thats right, i got suckered into starting a discus tank. My wife hates the fish hobby because she felt like i was excluding her, sooooo, i included her in a recent fish expedition, and she decided she thinks the discus are "so pretty". :aua: i tried explaining to her how much work they were, and she said that's fine, as long as i do all of it. I have been reading for 2 days now, but i still want some experienced advice on these fish.
1. Substrate?
2. Decor?
3. How many can i keep in a 125g
4. Is a 125g tank good for discus, i heard they only like hex tanks
5. Someone give me a valid reason i should NOT keep discus so i can tell her and finally get my Troph Colony i've been wanting.

1. Substrate? Natural colored or bare bottom. I can't advise you on substrate for a planted tank, I have the proverbial brown thumb.

2. Decor? Their natural environment has a lot of tree roots, so I like lots of wood. Please, no bubbling scuba divers

3. How many can i keep in a 125g ? You can easily keep 10 or more in a 125, just remember the more discus, the more maintenance you'll need.

4. Is a 125g tank good for discus, i heard they only like hex tanks? Discus would love a 125g tank. I personally would not consider keeping Discus in a hex, they need more room to turn their flat, disc shaped bodies. They tend to hover and rise and fall like an elevator, not a whole lot of cruising unless it's feeding time.

5. Someone give me a valid reason i should NOT keep discus so i can tell her and finally get my Troph Colony i've been wanting. ? None, go for it!

i bet you didn't think i would see this! you are not talking me out of my discuss tank mister! they are pretty and finally starting to get comfortable.....my tank is getting set up and you can't do anything about it! and it may even be pretty than yours

thank you, finally someone on my side. i keep telling her that i dont know enough about them to really jump off into it....oh well...guess i'll have to start learning.

IMO discus are better looking but tropheus are more fun to watch those little guys are always active swimming around everywhere.
