  • Question about Spirulina

I was told that i needed to add spirulina to my Mpimbwe's diet so it would help the "mooning" go away. I found a brand called Spirulina and they sell brine shrimp cubes. Is that the same thing? I already feed my guys brine shrimp so if i can kill two birds.....

    WTH?

You mean Hikari brand frozen food that is brine shrimp enhanced with Spirulina?

No it will not help cause frozen foods is like 98% moisture so it's not really food almost.

Also the mooning on Mpimbwes common...... IMO poor breeding habits by hobbyist/breeders but besides the point in a perfect world spirulina is suppose to help. But then again I rasied mobas from fry for like a year or two and fed spirulina and it did nothing for the one I tried to rememdy with it.

I know it sounds hokey....but I feel if you provide the fish with a healthy environment and give them regular feedings of healthy food, they will respond to the best of their abilities according to their mental and physical status.....I.E. Healthy Fish are Happy Fish, which might in some cases, mean pretty fish...???

Just my take on it....spirilina...my fish love it, I have no knowledge of it clearing up mooning.

If I were to try this i would get some 100% spirulina (normally powder like here http://www.kensfish.com/kensspecialtyfood.html) then mix it some thing else meaty and freeze it yourself this way you could get a good percentage of spirulina in the diet and if you wanted you could add other things like vitamin c . just my 2 cents.

            Shrimp mix!

I would add amino acids and garlic too if you make a mix.... but then again there are foods already that has a good content of spirulina along with all the other good stuff like NLS.

sweet. thanks for the advice. all my guys seem really happy. they swim around alot and explore all the caves. i just added another Calvus to the mix today and he looks awesome. as soon as he quits hiding, i'll post some pics. i went to Extreme today and bought him. the owner told me a week ago he was NEVER leaving the store. he was a personal pet and no amount of money would change his mind.....and today, one of the workers sold him to me for 60 bucks.

Too much Spirulina has said to cause black spots.

I am not sure if this will fix "mooning" but I was always under the impression that mooning is a breeding defect that is supposed to be culled out if properly done.

I know lots of people have problem with culling..but...whatever floats your boat..

                    food chain

I feed powdered Spirulina to my daphnia
and feed the daphnia to my fish..........
                    works for them.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
