  • fish or whatever that pass away...

what do people do with thier aquatic pets when they pass away? i remember when i was a kid, i had couple those 'sea monkey' setup... i left it under the sun too long, and they all got cooked... so i bury the whole thing in the front yard... now days i just left it in the tank and the rcs and snails will take care of it... or if its bigger ones, the turtles will take care of it...

I have only burried one fish which was an oscar I had for 7 years. The rest I have thrown away.

I had broiled Flounder with butter & lemon juice for dinner and what the kittens didn't finish, I tossed in the trash.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Sick, Dead or Unwanted I flush.

Putting it in the trash allows it to stink and then when you put it out to get picked up the strays dig that stuff up.

We have a 2' Asian Arowana in the freezer, was with us for about 14yrs before it passed so it was like being part of the family.

I put the dead fish in the freezer in a plastic bag with a little water in it. And then when I get around to it, I take them out of the plastic bag and bury them in the back yard. I have heard that it is not environmentally friendly to flush fish down the drain. I dunno if this is true or not. Though I think that if I cared enough about the fish I wouldn't want their body to go to a chemical treatment plant. That's just me. Now for large numbers of fish this wouldn't be practical. It would be a bit of a hassle to bury every fish that died. Leaving it in the tank sounds ok so long as it doesn't mess up your water quality.

Oh, and I had a friend once who made a little raft of twigs and leaves, placed her dead fish on it, and lit it up. It was kinda a little burning pyre that she floated on a lake. I personally wouldn't go that far.

oh yeah, i had to flush my betta that past away last week...
so what is the point of putting them in the freezer? save it for the future when they can clone for cheap? lol what happens if you got guest or ur wife/gf/husband/bf/whatever was hungry and goes to the freezer and didn't know what it is?

                        Suprise for them!

We actually thought about eating it.... so freezing it was the best idea. Other then that freezing them could keep them from stinking in the trash can till trash day.

on second thought who knows where the fish we get at grocery store has been and has been hormonized with, at least with aquarium fish we know all the chems we used :)
