I need help identifying this fish, my sister purchased it and Im a little lost what it might be. It is about 5 inches right now and growing...Can you help, thanks.

it is a texas cichlid

I believe this to be herichthys carpintis 'Escondido', or large spot texas cichlid. I have both the texas and this one. I would say it is the carpintis. just my opinion
