  • Water still cloudy-ok??

Ive had the new 2260 running a few days and the same wet dry thats always been there, the water is still a little murky-should it be "crystal" clean yet or does it take a week or so? i see some of the brown stuff in the bottom of the wet dry but someone said don`t wash the balls and i think thats where it comes from. From the front tank looks -ok from the end looking long ways-not so good. 40-50 percent water change every Friday. Thanks in Advance-just want whats good for the kids(fish).....,,,,one other thing if the wet dry has that brown stuff should i disconnect it and clean it all-balls tank pump etc??

I clean the bio-balls probably once a year, the detritus collecting at the bottom should be siphoned out if possible.

As for your water clarity, what did you do again to get it this way? If you just added a new filter and made sure it's contents were cleaned it should have just spat out micro bubbles temporarily then cleared up.

liljack -- on the wet/dry I never clean my bioballs... when I clean the sump, I do disconnect it from the system take all the bioballs and put them in the largest container I have at my house (two large mixing bowls) and then I clean the rest of the sump out..
I then return the bioballs back into the filter without ever having cleaned the. (I want the bacteria living there to be able to continue their job not start over)
Btw I do this together with my "every 6 month total tank break down" -- ie everything out of my tank, clean, everything back into the tank

I do vacume that out each time but have never cleaned those balls, someone told me not to-I`ll do that today. The water is about the same as before the 2260 install-not worse-it`s almost like that brown stuff is being stirred up all the time. OK to unhook wet dry and see if 2260 clears it up and then Ill know it was from there OR bad idea?

Did you put fine filter padding in the 2260?

Cleaning the wet/dry probably not gonna help much unless your filter padding is dirty. I hose the crap out of the bio-balls when I clean them, it builds up a lot of nasty stuff over time and contributes to the Nitrates.

I`ll try out some of those ideas, Prosper at Aqua Zoo put all the stuff in the 2260,several layers of different things with pad seperating.

An excellent way to clear up a cloudy tank, is to use two sponge filters with a good strong double valve air pump. They seem to work much faster than powerheads w/sponge.

After the tank is clear, you can always remove them, or one.
