new filter-new Bloom cycle?

Very potentially as the bacteria is multiplying because they found a new place to settle onto and there is plenty of Nitrites in the tank which causes the bloom

Did you completely remove the old filter? If you did, that's going to drastically reduce the good bacteria in there. Keep testing for ammonia and NitrItes.
If you get ammonia, a bloom is going going to be low priority compared to getting reducing ammonia.

ammonia and nitrites are low(good) nitrate mid level and I did my 40 percent water change last night, looks a little better, still cloudy but...I did remove that 2213 completely but left the wet/dry when i put in the 2260.Not an expert but i think its the 2260 getting comfortable causing the cloudiness.I did wonder if I should remove the wet/dry tank to box hose and clean or replace it?? Fish are ok. that 2260 is like a Tidal wave in there compared to what the fish were used to with the 2213...I think they like it, none seem to be on "Strike" yet.....:)

Ideally, your Ammonia and NitrItes should be Zero.
Any concentration of ammonia and nitrItes indicates that your tank is undergoing a cycle (also indicated by the cloudy bloom) and your wet dry doesn't have enough bio-capacity to handle the increased Ammonia & NitrItes yet. Which makes sense because your wet/dry has to take the capacity which was handled by your old 2213.
Do not remove the wet/dry tank system yet. Otherwise you will have not enough bacteria to remove the ammonia. Wait till your ammonia and nitrItes are Zero and the 2260 is somewhat established before contemplating playing around with the established wetdry system. Just leave the system alone and let bacteria work itself out. Keep monitoring the ammonia and NitrItes and if it gets out of control, be ready to do a WC.
I like the 2260 . I used that on a 75gal tank and the discus loved it.Last edited by nacra99; 02-24-2009, 05:50 PM.
