  • Great source for Red Cherry Shrimp - Fishbox special!

So I won this auction on Aquabid for some RCS. The price was great and the guy really nice to deal with. When I received my shrimps there was 100% survival rate, and I paid for 25 but got way more including several pregnant females.  They were in breather bags with a bit of live plant to hold on to, and in a box with warmer bag. I was impressed and I got to swapping email with the guy. I told him all about HoustonFishBox, and aksed if he could offer a good deal to peeps on here. So here's his offer:
    __________________________________________________ _______________________________________________
12 red cherry shrimp, including one pregnant female, $24.00 - includes shipping cost via USPS priority and live arrival guarantee

25 Red Cherry shrimp, including one pregnant female, $40.00 - includes shipping cost via USPS priority and live arrival guarantee

While supplies last of course  - if you know of anyone interested they can contact me direct at bellmurer@msn.com

thats a pretty good price! sure beats the lfs price thats for sure.

i have a 2.5gal overflowing with them(exaggeration) but mostly babies now with a few that have grown out. the tank didnt go as planned when i initially started it and the shrimp arent doing it for me. i was thinking about putting it up for sale here on hfb but not sure how many there is and how i would catch  them all out of the little tank.

anyways, great deal you got going though!

That's a great deal ... but excuse my ignorance ... will my Angels just find them as tasty treats?

Yeah most likely! They are only 1/2" or so long. They work well with small fish, but if you wnat them to breed (which they do quite easily) they really need a seperate tank. I have a 6 gallon planted with only RCS and MTS in it, and they seem to like it.

Hahaha - my 'angels' weren't so angelic with my amano shrimp that were full grown. IMO you can't trust an angel with any shrimp. I'm still waiting for my black neons to start disappearing...

I was told that Clown loaches willl eat them as well. Is that true?

I have some neocaridina shrimp that co-exist with them, but they are much larger that the red cherries.

Clown loaches will eat any bottom feeding inverts they can get in their mouths! I think that is their main food item!

For RCS if you keep them with fish, only small fish or vegetarian fish!

Good to know! I do know they LOVE the shrimp pellets. They race out, grab them and go hide and chow down!

I ordered a dozen......  was planning on putting them in a large planted comunity tank, but I guess I should rethink that.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
