Re: Hydra, whats the best way to get rid of it?

The only medication i have used that don't kill shrimp is flubenol. But it's almost impossible to find.

Don't ever use anything with copper. Kills inverts deadder and dead.

If you want to go the non-medicine route, set up a BB hospital tank and transfer all the shrimp over to it. Raise the temp of the main tank to 104 deg or more for 15 min. That should take care of the hydra. However your plants might suffer. The other thing is that unless you have a temp regulator, most petstore heaters don't go that high.

Hydra hitchhike on plants, but most commonly through brine shrimp eggs.
The best way to prevent brine shrimp hitchhikers is to decapsulate the eggs.
IMHO, decapsulation is a good habit. Not only does it kill all hitchikers, but hatch rate is significantly increased and hatch times significantly reduced. Giving "younger" and more nutritious BBS

Yes, but the problem is still the same.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Hmm Surprise no one talked about this one.

So far I know 4 people who have tested it with great results.  No deaths and it works quickly.

Only thing is finding the stuff.  None of my pet store have it.  If someone has any I please pm me!

Let me know what you guys think.

Picked up a 1 gm packet of “Safe Guard” brand fenbendazole today and will try it tomorrow.

                  This may help: http://www.planetinverts.com/killing...and_hydra.html

Not trying to plug my site, its got a bad rep on this website anyhow. There have been several people who have followed those two methods and it worked great for them. Good luck if you try it.

Re: Hydra, whats the best way to get rid of it?

Well, I did it.  I put 5 tablespoons of hot water in my magic bullet (small blender) added half a gram of fenbendazole and hit the go switch.
I think the hot water and the blender did a good job of helping it disolve.
Then I added 1 tablespoon of the concoction to each infected 10g tank.  (baby bettas from 4 to 7 weeks old)
                      Tomorrow will tell the tail.

                          Success
