  • A fish for shrimp lovers

I picked these guys up today, and had to share. These are toothpick fish, or Indostomus crocodilus. These guys don't eat ornamental shrimp, and are actually considered to be a great asset to a shrimp tank. They are known to eat planaria, a dangerous enemy to shrimp tanks.

I'll work on getting better pictures later. Just took these with my phone real quick.

3 cm, so 1.5 inches. Mine are easily over an inch, so they are probably full grown.

I need to triple check on what species they are. To date there are 3 species of Indostomus. Crocodilus from Thailand, paradoxus from Burma, and spinosus from the Mekong River. Aparently there is a 4th but it is not officially described yet, so I doubt I have that one.

I picked up a couple of them . . . and threw them in a planted tank. Hopefully I'll see them in a couple months. Cool fish.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
