after being annoyed by my PH not being correct and getting rid of the CRS. i picked up some RCS to keep instead..maybe ill ease my way back to keeping CRS after getting a little more experience. Heres my tank setup for the RCS. i took out the black background, threw on a Jebo 13w clip on, used a sponge filter, and got a bunch of java moss. i think it looks better lmao. simplicity..

With cherry shrimp . . . it depends on how many you have and the ratio. In any case, it won't be long! You may have some berried by the time you wake up!

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

When you see males swimming around in the water column like crazy you know that females are ready to get it on lol. My females tend to hide when they are berried.

one easy way of getting rid of surface proteins on a still water topped aquarium is just by laying a paper towel on the surface to absorb it and then repeat as necessary. creating surface disturbance just mixes the proteins back into the water column, which is okay guess if you are running carbon

i have a rainbow looking film on top of the water, i assume it is protein. i have done the paper towel technique but it come back with in hours. and the flake i was feeding was rich in protein. what else do you recomend?

Have your filter set to agitate the water surface and start getting use to it.

Lower the water level some and it'll break the water surface which will force the film into the water column and then the filter will do the work from there.

yeah, allowing the spraybar to break the proteins into the water column is about all you can do if the paper towels arent working and u dont want to buy a protein skimmer, lol. i used to keep a small internal filter full of carbon that i would temp. place in the tanks for cleanup duties if it gets too bad but i stopped using that when i went to planted tanks. the oils are coming from food and also from your hands if you are not using gloves. some of the higher quality foods are not supposed to leave as many proteins but i am not using anything more than what i buy at the LFS so i dont know which ones work the best.

yea a rotein skimmer is not going to happen for a 10g tank. i didnt used gloves and the food i had wasnt the best. so there you go, you solve my problem lol
