i think i know why they hide, do they like current? or just steady water. i place them some Zuchinni and the thing floats. it took them about 5 hrs to sink.

they dont seem to like strong current. i ended up going to a smaller canister filter for that reason. my white pearls are out and active at all hours but they also have plants and good cover from driftwood. i just hung a 2x18w t5ho fixture on top and that didnt bother them so lighting isnt an issue. mine did hide for the first week in the tank. i would imagine some overhead cover might help, i have foxtail floating at the surface. i also would be surprised that berried females are going to be shy. i wonder if inverts recognize dither fish? i do have a school of microrasboras in with them. blanch the zukes in boiling water for 15-20 sec to soften them up and they will sink better, i also use a suction cup mounted food clip.75G Standard - High Light Planted Community Fish

well the light on this tank sucks, even my girl was like i like the light but you cant see anything inside. and the minifilter its just to powerfull. it makes the water agitate to much and when i do see the shrimp cruze te tank and they pass by the curent they run to hide again. i did blanch them for a whole minute but they floated. in the morning they were on the bottom hopefully they are eating them.
i sponge filter will be big for the tank what else can i use?75g Tank,

a power filter is probably the best thing to use for this application even though i dont care for them generally. finnex seems to be a good product and the pf5 is rated 10gph less than your filter but will that be enough to matter? its hard to say without trying one. personally, i havent bought any equipment from red sea that has been worth owning in a long time. maybe you can somehow diffuse the output where it dumps back into the aquarium with floating plants or maybe even a small piece of clear plastic that sits just under the surface of the water75G Standard - High Light Planted Community Fish

cover is plastic but it has the opening for the existing filter and in the middle goes the light and then opening for a heater. the tank size is about 12in length 18in tall and about 10in wide its a 180 view so its really hard. i had it afor about 3 weeks i wonder if i can jsut return it.75g Tank,

i doubt that you could return it unless it is defective. madehtsobis idea of a rock under the return sounds good too.75G Standard - High Light Planted Community Fish

yeh you got like no more "play room" to work with.
just swap filters and put a rock under the return and it should be better and put a bunch of filter floss in the filter to sorta slow down the output...some HOB back filters you can adjust the flow rate as well.. i can adjust the flow on my finnex.

i wonder if it is safe to put a filter on a dimmer switch so that you can adjust flow? i would think that you could do this since you can do it with computer type brushless fans.75G Standard - High Light Planted Community Fish
