you have seen the dimmer switches that are used to dim incanescent room lights in houses? that might work although i would ask a qualified electrician to make sure that it is safe.

i think it would be cheaper to get a new filter. i will try to place a rock on one of the 4 return holes. if not i will just shut it down and leave no filtration for a while.

I'd suggest simply getting a small sponge filter, they are perfect for your setup and litterally no maintanance. With some regular water changes (weekly) of a half gallon you'll have great water. They have differing sizes or an elongated one and hide it with your driftwood, cut the tube to your desired height and with a simple air pump you are finished. With just fry and shrimp in the tank I'd suggest feeding spirulina tablets and just crush about 1/2 of one up or just a tiny bit into a fine powder for the fry and the shrimp don't care how they get it.

Have you tried stuffing the filter full of floss?

Poly-Fil, or filter floss. Its cheap and you can find big bags in the craft section of wal-mart or hobby lobby for dirt cheap ($2-3 a bag and its a lifetime supply)

i tried to turn on the filter yesterday night but i was not allowed by the berried females. out of the 5 shrimp i have i know for a fact 3 are berried and one is not as i can see the pouch on the top green in color. but all the females where hanging by the filter as if they were having a meeting. the male was in the bottom eating. i tried to removed them but they would swim back to it and i couldn't turn it on as i didn't want the filter to suck them up. i did place a bubbler and blew for about an hour so the water could get some oxygen.

finally i was able to sit and observe the shrimp tank and i found out that the eggs had hatch or were hatching. i counted about 10 shrimplets about 2mm long and about 10 about microsize. and i do think my endler also pop. i was going to do a water change but i cant for the moment as i see them everywhere on the tank.

Congrats!!!!! They are prolific, now yet another colony in our area. Glad to hear they are doing well and am glad to see them prospering. Soon you'll have so many you won't know what to do with them all. We laughed after you left and we could still count 50 in that 10 gallon easily, without even guessing how many are in the jungle you can't see.

Very glad it all worked out for you, I think we are even thinking about a different variety soon. I'm wanting to try my hand at CRS or CBS again and now that we should be freeing up our 3 gallon pico the soft water will be a lot easier to manage.

Good Deal, glad you have some possible males in there as well, I had hoped there were some in with mine, but alas just berried females, lol. As far as the Yellow's go, keep them seperate as they are the exact same species and will interbreed and produce brown uglies. Same gous with snoballs and blues. Look over any you think about keeping with them as there are many color morphs and if they do breed they will just revert back to normal colorations and kill any color lineage they have, as an FYI. There are some websites that give a great chart over what will and won't interbreed.
