anyone ever had these? still have them? what are your thought? i'm thinking of getting a dozen at 10 dollars each plus 55 for shipping. unless some one want to sell them at 10 dollars each.

I have seen a few in those 'enclosed' bubbles before. From what I have read, they are brackish and native to Hawaii. I know they sell them online at a few sites and one even has them for free, you just have to pay shipping.

if they do actually adapt so well that they could be housed with other dwarf shrimps from caridina and neocaridina then it could open up the possibility of having three different, non crossing genus of shrimp in your tank.

yeah, i'm waiting on a dozen fire red shrimps to come at the moment. i guess i'm in no immediate rush to get these guys :)

From what I have read they are strictly brackish, but will reproduce. Not certain if they are low or high order, but I assume if they will reproduce easily they must be high. Everything I have read concerning them states they do not tolerate anything less then brackish, but can be acclimated to marine.

i've actually done some extensive research on them. they should to be in 1.008 to 1.012 SG.

bummer, i kept reading that the tolerated a wide range of salinity and hardness so i was hoping they might keep similar to amano shrimp

they do. you can keep them in fresh water for extended amount of time (not indefinitely), and you can acclimate them to be in full marine for even longer (again, not indefinitely). some other forum member i talked to mentioned his 3 years old colony fluxuate between 1.012 and 1.020 between monthly water changes.

I would do this for the wow factor... but there's not much cool fish to keep with them in brackish that wouldn't make a meal of them.

I have a breeding population of these. While i maintain mine at a steady specific gravity of 1.014, i was told by the gentleman who gave them to me that they do fine in both full fresh and full marine, but breed poorly--or not at all--in such conditions. He's maintained his breeding colony for over a decade so i trust his experience with them.

I'd be interested in finding folks who want to swap to maintain diversity. I've no idea which type locality i have and thus have no qualms crossing with other collection locales.
