Indeed!!! It is likely something that is impossible to reproduce in an aquarium enviroment. Perhaps some food source in the Infusoria that is their primary food source. It almost has to be something or a collection of things that are only attainable on a larger scale and under direct sunlight. Perhaps even free floating algae or paramecium. I have a strong feeling its microscopic and thus why aqauarists fail to yield any results in rearing them.

i tried a large outdoor pond (an old 5000 gallon above ground pool) for rearing treefrog tadpoles a couple times and could not keep the dang water dragons / water scorpions / fisherman spiders out of the thing. I only had about 10-15% emerge. I bet that they would love shrimp too, how do you keep them out?

I had a small half barrel pond in my backyard for a few years with a powerhead fitted with a sponge attachment as the only filtration and I never had any issues with predators below the waterline. I did start missing my sailfins and came home one evening to find a sly little owl with one. At that point I started with a lot of floaters and it never happened again. It was in full/partial sun and I had tufts of algae 1/2" long on all sides, I bet that shrimp would have blown up in there. Here are some of my old pics, mostly of the water lily blooms...

I think that it is a blue tiger just with no orange eyes. Very cool shrimp and I'd love to see a video of your pond and the shrimp in the pond the koi don't eat the shrimp? Or are they just too small for them? If water volume is key then I am starting a 500 gallon sulawesi tank! It is going to have 1000 shrimp!

I've had amano get a slight hint of blue in the carapace and abdomen where they would normally have the brown markings but nothing like this.

Possibly the amount or type of algae these consumed cause this color morph to occur.

Here's the thing, the ponds are for the koi only that I happen to have really good luck that all kinds of shrimp are breeding in there is a plus. Yes the koi feast on them, but hey it's their home! That I noticed last night a bunch of blue's all together with some Amano's that's rare. A few minutes ago I took a peek and all I saw was amanos and this time a few cherries, no blues.
Is there something special to the water.................maybe. Color change because of a food source, maybe. I know it's not the koi food cause that contains copper and we all know copper is deadly to shrimp. My company installs koi ponds and we use only Aquascape products "aquascapeinc.com". In all the ponds we install we got shrimp, hitchhiked with the waterlily's. Our ponds are no smaller than 1500 gallons, we did once a koi pond that was a acre and half. Point is shrimp is breeding in all of them.
I'm happy to give every one free shrimp but you have to acclimate them to none pond water. And when I clean the ponds I'll let y'all know that we can have a shrimp feast.
