Gah.... I check my nitrate last night and had a spike to 3ppm did a 30% water change added more plants. This morning I had check again it dropped to 1-2ppm. Need to do another water change when I get home from work hopefully that will take care of the spike.

Please let my baby crs live through this water spike! :ertrink:

Why anybody starts up a tank without using Seachem Stability is beyond me. You gotta get some of that! It helped my 125 get out of a horrible nitrite stall, and now I always add Stability and fish together. Instant cycle. Never lost a fish, not even my fronts. Safe for shrimp and other inverts too. I didn't believe it was possible to avoid having to cycle for 4-6 weeks or more. If you use Stability, you can safely keep and enjoy fish while your tank matures.

I have yet tried this stability stuff, hear good things about it but "fill with water and add fish/shrimp" has worked pretty good for me.

Always with plants? Or without also?

If you don't remember my oscars where without, then I went from that to all of the trophs overnight.

My oddball tank I started up and moved all my loaches, cories, halfbeaks in the same night I cleaned the dried up gunk out of it, few days later added a few natives and days later the Fahaka.

I think most all my tanks are started this way... always with Kordon's Amquel+plus though which I think is the key behind my success. I mean these are the people that made fish bags that breathe and require no oxygen in it!!!!

I know some will scream bloody murder but my CRS tank was started like this as well, with plants but low light plants.

I agree. I've used Amquel Plus as well, since I was little. For routine water changes I do Prime but I always start a tank with Amquel Plus.

I believe prime is a great product and it is a good bang for the buck but I can't pull myself from using amquel+plus religiously. I buy it by the gallon, carbon bottle or not.
