Indoor ponds??!!?? What's the light and ventilation source on it?? It's the same as a fishtank if you ask me, it is!!
You wanna breed shrimp in a pond you need to understand that you wanna come really close to nature it self. Pond need to be outside with natural daylight and ventilation and big swings in temps. Need to be big enough and have to adjust easily to the biological balance and avoid crashes in the balance system. NO pumps or filtration and no water changes and no feedings. Ponds need to run on their own and will crash from time to time. Mine stock ponds do to but the system is strong and mature enough to bounce back in a day or two. To me and of course you don't have to listen you will waist your money!! One simple thing about all this is "Try not to reinvent the wheel" Some of you guys did see my setups and and it's not that difficult. Keep it simple "10 gallon tank with cheap eco save lights on top (25 watts x2) hob filter ( I run marineland and Eheims) but the most imported factor in all this is ADA amazon soil. I grow about every plant in there without CO2 and fertilizer. If you invest in a pc 6700 0r 5500 light strip 30 or 40 watts you doing even better. Every week about 10% water change and let it mature don't be afraid for some algae, algae is good. That's it........wait one more important key all to this is you need................

Pretty much that all it is! well in my case thats what it will be. My backyard is to much of a pit and floods to much because of the neighbors pool so if I stick a pond out there, that pond will just die everytime it rains because of the chemicals they put into it, which is no bueno. So I decided to do it differently. I'm buying the small preformed shells or a horse trof and designing a 3' rock solid stand for it to sit in. I would love to see the natural goings of a real pond but, the fact of the pool flooding leaves me at a problem. The indoor "pond" just kinda gives the feel of it without the all natural goings. Get what I'm saying?

On my small barrel pond (the term is used very loosely), there was maybe 50 gallons in it and I had a powerhead and sponge filter as my filtration. It was placed outdoor, but under some foliage to provide some cover during the heat of the day and had quite a mass of floating plants to diffuse very strong light. After the initial cycle it functioned perfectly for years without no tinkering other then adding occasional water and cutting back the excess vegetation during the summer months. I would probably recommend trying RCS or some neocardina morph if you keep it outside as the temp and Ph might get tough to keep up with, but indoors I'd imagine it would be far easier. For lighting just hanging a nice flourescent fixture with some nice bulbs and a decent canister filter would handle it perfectly

Yea, I use the 300G outdoors in the summer as growout. The colors are very nice. I use the tanks inside to sell my fish. Most people buy from me just want colored fish . Mostly peacocks so that is what I keep. I don't breed anymore cause they take too long to grow so I just buy small and juvies and just grow them outside for the summer.

I am venturing into shrimps now, I just got a 75 or 100 G tub , but I am waiting til it gets a little warmer to get the stock. I am just cycling the water right now so it will be ready for the shrimp when it gets warmer.

Guru, the only thing that I will say differently is the pumps. I am talking about cichlids and not shrimp now, but in the summer if I don't have water movement , the fish will die when it gets too hot. There isn't enough oxygen if there isn't at an air pump in there.

To keep the algae from going crazy , I have to use a UV Sterelizer , then my water is crystal clear. There is still some algae growing on the sides of the pond, but I can see to the bottom.

I'm basically saying that instead of using a tank I wanna use a tub. just for chits and giggles.

Like frag farmers using them instead of paying out the arse for a shallow tank.

If you talking fish yes, but my stock ponds with koi don't have pumps and uv's just lily's, floating plants and some cabomba etc in there and my water is clear as RO/DI. That only is if the balance is right. Most ppl just do to much and creating the maintenance them self.
