  • Marbled Crayfish on the way

Well I've been looking for a sustainable source of crunchy food for my puffers and figured I'd give these a shot. Have 10 of them on the way, which will be housed in my 29 gal Nyererei breeder for short term until I get a 20 gal long setup for them.

Anybody else keeping them? From what I've read they seem hardy. Just wondering if there's anything I should be aware of?

had some a long time ago but they never got a chance to have babies...

supposedly just alot of hiding places for them like pvc pipes and just feed them algae wafers.

I have some leftover slate and clay pots and stuff so hiding is covered. Did yours ever try to attack any small fish? Was thinking of adding one to my planted tetra tank.

Are these the self cloning ones?

I know you can find the marbled ones locally in some creeks up north.

Yep, self cloning. And if they produce like I've read I'll be overrun in 6 months.

I'm keeping CPOs, the dwarf orange ones, really simple to keep, just lots of hiding spots like mentioned above. Yours will be much more prolific then mine ever will.

I hope they are baby makin machines. I can't convince my puffers to eat anything but live foods. Which isn't cheap. And unfortunately they are my girlfriend "babies" so there's no chance of convincing her to find them new homes. Shes not allowed to buy fish without me anymore btw.

i made a pond in my backyard and raise feeder guppies in it.... they get to be about 2 inches long... i keep the pond water clean and the guppies fed and healthy. My big fish love them!

Well I ran across some info that feeder fish weren't good for orange saddle fugu's (I suck with scientific names, my other puffer is a figure 8) so I wanted to start feeding these guys crunchier, healthier foods.

Although, I also read that these
Fugu's don't do well in aquariums, usually lasting only a couple months and my GF bought him a year ago, and then first 9 months he pretty much predominately ate rosie's so who knows.

if you raise the feeders yourself they would be healthy and good for your fish. the feeders you buy inthe store are crap, full of parasites and whatever else. i will add crawfish to my pond soon, Fish Gallery is supposed to be getting Marbeled Crawfish soon.
