  • help me identify this guy

I got this from the fish gallery probably a month ago it was like 1/2 inch and it was sold as a orange bee shrimp, and well since I am no expert on this shrimp stuff but for me it looks more like an Amano, it is now like almost 2 inches long.

sorry for the quality but it is the best i can do when I try to upload here.

I don't see anything to make me say decisively it is not a Orange Bee(Caridina cantonensis sp. "Orange Bee" - http://www.planetinverts.com/Orange%20Bee%20Shrimp.html ). It could be a low grade Orange Sunkist(
      Caridina cf. propinqua
http://shrimpspot.com/orangeshrimp.aspx) as well. But I would say it is a Bee or even a low grade Tiger (Caridina cantonensis sp. Tiger).

Not saying it could not be an Amano, it absolutely could but don't jump to that conclusion.

It was the size that sinched it for me, only Amano and various Macrobranchium get that size and maintain that shape. Minus having large arms or fans, the only readily available thing is an Amano. It could be a very odd critter, but it looks like an Amano

thats corckscrew val. oh you mean teh skrimp lol. i dont think its an amano, the males have a line of dots along the lower abdomen and these dots join to form almost a solid line in females. i dont see that here, but do tiger and bee females get 2"? thats pretty big.

The orange sunkist seem to be new to the hobby and I've seen what look to be dyed "orange" shrimp at other LFS and they look to be the same.

My vote is for Amano as well. Maybe not the prettiest one I've ever seen, no beauty contest winner. But at that size and coloring? Yeah...that's my guess.

can't recall exactly per shrimp but they were around 5~6 a piece, which I have found by now that I can get better deals by getting much better types of shrimp and quality, by other means.
