For me, the whole point of the box is to control which two breed, whether the shrimplets get back into the tank is not a problem since it's my CRS tank.
duh.. LOL>> i guess your right.. lol

i guess.. i was thinking maybe this would be good way to isolate some shrimp if i need more space if i got some shrimp in.. or when changing tanks..

        Thanks for sharing.

        1. Is there a strainer on the intake pipe?

        2. Without the sponge, are the openings large enough for large shrimp to escape back into main tank?

im sure there are ways to modify it to fit everyones needs. you can super glue a grid on it and it wont let the fry / shrimp go by.

It would work if you put mesh on the box to cover the output and the emergency overflow.

but I wouldn't chance it since a lot of Sp. cross.

There is a strainer on the on intake pipe right where the air tube mounts to create the lift.

without the sponge, if you use the smaller grate out of the two supplied the peewee/juvi/adult shrimp can not escape.

I've gotten my air driven one to be almost un-noticeable but I agree! want more flow and silence, go with a fountain pump and no better way than with an eheim.

I have aquasoil in mine but just a thin layer for this reason, I hate seeing the film build up on the bottom. Plus it gives them something to feed off.

Molted shell is normal when berried, just make sure she molts right and doesn't drop the eggs with them.

For cleaning I would use a small dia. airline tubing and just shoo the shrimplets away where you are cleaning.
