  • Ghost Shrimp

So I bought some ghost shrimp to use while cycling my daughters tank and when I was looking at them in the water two of them are berried. One has them just dangling and are double the size of the other. How long will these shrimp carry the eggs before they drop? And should i do anything like extra food or just leave them be?

They won't hatch in fresh water. these have a brackish larval state.

Ok cool I just told them that I wanted some larger ones so that they would not get eaten but the gourami.

It's a dwarf so they are bigger than it's face.

There's totally an empty shell by where the gourami normally sits.

'ghost shrimp' is a really general term used for a variety of clear shrimp. i have seen snowball (aka white pearl) dwarf shrimp called this among others so its possible that they could be breeding in FW. there are some 'algae eating ghost shrimp' coming out of florida right now that are reported to be crosses of amanos and some other shrimp. They are pretty big but not as good as true Caridina for algae eating

the shell you see may be just a molted carapace if the back of the shell looks flipped open like a lambo door and theres no flesh inside. eaten shrimp arent normally picked away from the shell cleanly.
