  • Do Amanos hunt and eat shrimplets?

I have some snowball shrimp-lets and well by looking at the amanos how they hog everything related to food just making sure they will not thin out my shrimp-let population.

I've seen an amano take down a small fish. Evil shrimp!

      Yes they do.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

well I guess keep them but pretty but the shrimp population will never grow or find them a new home, I see the shrimplets everywhere but it is hard to say if it is being exterminated or not, they are so tiny can't really tell, I don't see the Amanos chasing them but since they are so tiny they might grab them when they are passing by.

I have cardinals that are berried and will soon release should I remove the amanos?

You could try it and let us know... but seeing as though cardinals are smaller than avg neocardina and cardina sp. I would say its a losing bet.

I have a amano in my 55g community tank with RCS and I have yet to see a slow down in the population boom. It is planted well, so I guess he could be getting to some. it seems to double in population every 2 months so must not be much.... I think if he is feasting on shrimplets he might now be getting enough food. What are you feeding them?

well this is the first time i have shrimplets so I am not sure if they are feasting on them, but I feed the tank some spirulina flakes and algae waffers which the snails and amanos hog.

But I have not seen any amanos feasting on shrimplets yet.

I don't notice significant losses, but mine are well fed and they will eat nearly anything. I'm certain young shrimplets are easy prey, to be honest I see amano's steal food out of fishes mouths. Sasha saw one steal bloodworms from the dwarf puffers mouth, so fear is nothing to them.

One thing for sure Amanos do not eat any shrimplet that I am aware, my snowball population is on a logarithmic growth.
