  • Strange Sakura Behavior

I got a new external nano filter for the shrimps. I decided to test it on the sakura tank. Before I left for work, positioned spray bar upwards to lower the disturbance. Came home and the sakura are swimming and floating around like dead fish. What's wrong with them?

I removed the spray bar and they went back to normal. Then restarted the pump, same behavior but less activity like last time. The filter I used before that tank was a sponge filter.

I've noticed with higher flow they tend to be more active and swim in the water column, is that what you are talking about?

If not then I would double check any chemical media you used or if you filled the canister with tap water you might wanna dose some prime/amquel+plus.

Thats what they're doing. Is it bad? I'm still new to external filters. All I know is ceramic media with carbon bag.

Swimming up, then stopping and floating down. Repeat process. They stop when I remove the spray bar.

Sounds like normal behavior, once they get accustomed to the water flow they'll revert back so when the flow stops they'll be doing the same.

i wondered about this to when i switched from a zoo med nano 511 to a emperor 280 on a 10 gallon. they seem to appreciate the extra flow now, they are much more active and healthier looking.

I have a Rena xp2 on my 20 gallon shrimp tank. They are more active with the higher flow than when it had a HOB on it.

They're back to normal now. Just woke up and they're all happily scavenging.
