  • Please help identify my shrimp

LFS was calling these "Algae Shrimp" - would love to know what I actually have. Thanks!

I think Amano shrimp is correct. LFS said they'd only grow to an inch, but LFS seems to talk mostly from the posterior end. Thanks :)

They are amano shrimp. otherwise known as alage eating shrimp, Yamato Numa-Ebi, or Japanese Swamp Shrimp.

No you don't need smaller shrimp. Shrimp are very little bio load and they help keep things clean.

Not a BamBoo shrimp. I have a video of bamboo shrimp on here.

Its an Amano shrimp they do get about 3" but do great job cleaning.

Except amanos will go after shrimplets and even small fish.

the males will stay smaller and dont seem to be as aggressive, at least mine dont. the one in the pic appears to be a male, judging from the more roundish spots. on my females, the spots are ovals and sometimes join to form dashed lines. i havent seen them go after small fish but they do get to the food in a hurry.
