  • Tylos breeding

I was doing my W/C on the sulawesi pico today and found some good news: I see 2 tylo babies!

And here's another, tucked into the rock niche there...

Hopefully that means there's more...or will be.
    Here's mum/dad?

with one of the babes cruising by on the glass...hahah.

We did end up getting some assassin hitchhikers into this tank, despite our best efforts to avoid that. Those things are like a magical plague around here! No adults, but babies keep popping up from somewhere...sigh. The tylo babies are already bigger than they are, so I'm just going to keep pulling the wee killers out/crushing them as I see them and hope for the best. I can't imagine trying to restart the tank, the cardinals wouldn't like that much, I'm sure. Anyone else have any experience with them accidentally co-habitating? Some of you keep nerites and assassins together, right?

Are the shells to hard for pea puffers?

i have assassins with nerites, no problems yet but they are a lot harder to extract that a tylo would be judging from the shell construction. nerites seldom cruise the substrate and i would think it would be hard to attack them off of the glass or DW. i want to say tim was telling me about assassins dogpiling a tylo but i am not positive it was he that was telling me that.

The snails are awesome, now its just trying to find another tank they can work in to get another species... I think those mini yellows are next...

Don't feed them to the puffers... I'll take them!!

Cool, thanks Jeff. Tylos do have a trapdoor- or whatever you call it? they can 'close'- but I have to say, I've never seen them employ it. I'm thinking they will be able to fend off the assassins that are in there, we're talking maybe a few mm long...but I'll be extra vigilant about removing the wee killers anyway.

Yeah, I happened to see these two right after the W/C, but an hour later they were nowhere to be seen- I'm hoping that means there are a LOT more.

And thanks, everybody...! I've been waiting for this for awhile. I love watching these guys haul themselves around... best beautiful little weirdo snails ever.
