This is My Vampire Crab tank pictures.

I did loss one out of two. but the one is doing very well. the tank has a rocky bottom with forest moss on top. With two live plants.

i was not part of group buy.. since i am from ATX.. but i did manage to get my LFS to order some, a co worker had/wants some again..

they are supposed to be here today..

i will post pics of set up once i get them in.. :)

20g long ( i have 2 empty, if i can get BICOLOR and RED DEVILS.. or others.> :)
going with about 2" plus of hydrotron, from pot head store.. i mean indoor gardening..

fiberglass window screen mesh..

exo terra cocco fiber substrate

sphagnum moss layer over that..

then live oak leaf litter..

The "floor" of a proper viv is raised by a couple of ways. One way is to make an empty box out of egg crate light diffuser and covering it with window screen. Another way is to use hydroton clay balls that are used in hydroponics to raise the "floor". The point of this is so that your substrate or sphagnum moss or whatever doesn't sit in water and rot since the viv needs to be sprayed often to keep up humidity levels. An image search for "vivarium false bottom" should give you a better idea.

from what i am researching.. vamp crabs.. need the same environemnt as dart frogs..

I just throw My vampire tank together. using what I had. As I learn more. I want to make some changes and improve the setup.

yes..

from what i have researched.. you don't want the Soil to be sitting in water.. there should be some air between the two..

some use the false bottom, made of the "egg crate" and wrap it with the fiberglass screen ($7 home depot for smallest amount)

others use the hydroton.. (i saw my LFS terrarium.. they used bio balls.. )

depending on size of the falsebottom.. a little PVC tubes are used as support from underneath..

i don't think it is.. BUT this red devil breeder, mellowvision, told me to stay away from hydroton and go falsebottom.. still waiting on reason WHY?!

i would be interested in hearing that. hydroton would be better for plants if you add those. i have hydroton -> windowscreen -> coarse coconut fiber -> construction sand / milled coconut fiber / oyster shell mix for hermit crabs and they seem to do well
