  • Gut Loading Foods for Purdy Colors

One of my Red Devil Crabs has molted and while his claws are red his carapace has no color at all. I am thinking that I should gut load the crickets with foods that would help them produce canthaxanthin or whatever pigment crabs make. I am thinking dried krill, bloodworms, daphnia, and red bell pepper might be good choices. I wonder if they still sell canthaxanthin pills for sunless tanning purposes, that would be cool. Any other suggestions? I cant really use flake since the 90% humidity causes mold to grow pretty quickly.

oatmeal, puppy chow, and celery will contribute to bringing out reds? i am feeding the crickets with betta flakes since the stuff that i had just happened to have cantaxanthin in it already. i have used celery for moisture but i have never considered it a phytonutrient...i will look into that. puppy chow is fatty and a stable if i am growing out critters, i think these crabs are near adult size so i am using flax and milled chia instead. carrots are a no brainer that slipped my mind. ugh. i now recall that people who have fire red bearded dragons like to feed papaya, cantelope, and mango too.

i thought about just letting them run around in the yard but i am sure that they would like texas so much that they would take over and be running around everywhere like house geckos.

Get them a sand box to play in with a net fence and cover to keep the birds away
