Chinese Livebearing Snails

Hi, I recieved 2 Chinese Livebearing Snails in my shipment of fish I got recently and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. I've tried looking to see if they are not allowed in Texas but the only snails the list had were the Giant Ramshorn's so I think the link must go to an old list . I'm sure there are other aquatic snails not allowed here.

As well if I don't have to destroy them, I'd like to know if they need anything special for keeping. I didn't order them, they came as an extra but I've seen this seller selling them with his shrimps as they tend to grow algea on their shells which the shrimp like.

On a quick search. I couldn't find a thing. the only thing *I found was chinese mystery snails. Are they like those?

If you could get a photo of them I think everyone could help a bit more. I know of the Japanese trap door snail, MTS, Tylomelania spp., Clea (assassin) and some of the oddball species that are still fairly rare in the hobby (like Tiara and the primitive tylos types). Not exactly sure what you have and with such a broad and suspect name it is hard to narrow down exactly what you have.

ok. Will get the photo and post latter. They are livebearing and here is a picture from an auction the guy is running. I haven't actually seen mine, they came in a mess of floating plants he sent with a note there are 2 of these in the plants. I just dumped everything into a small holding tank.

Doing some research I found this on Applesnail.net . Viviparidae have a worldwide distribution.

Subfamily Viviparinae:
- Viviparus: Eastern North America and most
of Europe.
- Tulatoma: endemic in Coosa River, Alabama, USA.

Campelominae or Lioplacinae:
- Campeloma: Eastern North America.

- Lioplax; Eastern North America.

Bellamyinae:
- Bellamyia: Africa, India, southeast Asia.

Cipangopaludina: east and southeast Asia, and as an exotic elsewhere.

- Notopala: eastern Australia. Larina; northeast Australia.

So it looks like what I have must be V. cipangopaludina or something similar. hmmm but it still doesn't tell me if they are allowed in Texas. :(

Very cool looking snail. Based upon what I found, they seem to be invasive (and established in WI and MO to name a few) but are not illegal. Looks kinda like Cipangopaludina chinensis to me.

Thank you. I'm not finding much on their care but it does say they like cool water. ./shrug we'll see if they survive in my fish room.
