You could have gotten some tampons too!!! They are great to use for extracting vinegar eels!!! And I'm sure that you could use maxi pads to scrub the algae from the inside glass of your aquariums!! LOL! I bet you would feel REALLY manly buying that stuff!!!

I could be like "What? You never seen a lady with sideburns THIS big before?" It would be easier than trying to explain that it was all for a shrimp tank.

Vinegar eels are small nematodes found in unpasturized cider vinegar

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Well... I use Hydro III sponge filters (which are almost impossible to find in houston) for all 10 of my shrimp tanks (yeah... i know.. 10... crazee  8O ). They circulate the water with very low suction, so they are definitely shrimplet safe.
They are a little unsightly for a planted tanks, but eh.... as long as it's not a show tank...
Here's a pic of the sponge filter in my CRS/Indian Zebra tank:

Hmm... you keep vinegar eels in vinegar? hah.... they are tiny worms (nematodes actually) which are small enuff to feed even the smallest of freshwater fry.

I just uploaded a vid of my vinegar eel culture:

Yeah, that website is pretty cool! I used to keep mine in a bottle with a neck and (if I remember correctly) I would insert a tampon in the neck and fill up the bottle to above the tampon and put it in the dark...then I would come back with an eyedropper like maybe an hour(?) later and harvest the V. eels from the clean water above the tampon and feed directly to my fish. The nematodes are so small that they could swim through the fibers in the tampon to reach the surface for oxygen. I guess your way is better though! It probably gives you a higher yield.

ooh, I forgot to mention, I filled the rest of the bottle up with clean water (above the tampon)...that way I didn't get the vinegar solution in the fish tank when I eyedroppered the eels out! LOL, I guess I wasn't very clear in the above post...

                          Re: Filter for Shrimp Tank?

My shrimp tank has an overhead filter. On the cage over the intake I used a filter media bag. Its holes are small enough to stop CRS larvae from being sucked in. I used a cable tie to hold it in place.
