    Re: High Grade CRS Tank

Hey I think I found a solution to softening the water. It's called a Water Softener Pillow and its made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. I think I've seen this product before but never really paid attention to it not having the need for it. It's full of some kind of ion exchange resin and you can stick it in your filter out of sight. For some reason, I haven't heard of any shrimp-keepers using it but I didn't see a warning for crustaceans or inverts and copper wasn't listed as one of the ingredients. And you can even recharge it by using aquarium salt. Think it was like $8 for a bag suitable for 20g.

I have used those pillows before and honestly I would rather use peat or change the substrate.

All the softening pillows do is replace the Calcium in the water with Sodium. IMO, not very useful for most aquarium purposes.

On the plus side the shrimp have finally settled in and started coming out of hiding. But my camera still sucks.

OMG!! I love those shrimp! How big are they gonna get?? When do you think they're gonna start breeding for you? They are really cute, though!! I REALLY like the bee ones!

I think they get to about an inch. They seem pretty happy right now, but they won't breed until I get the water parameters just right which I'm working on. My favorite thing about them is how they just stroll around and when the mood strikes them just "fly" from substrate to stone, stone to plant, etc.

I asked Shawn for a Hino but told him I understood if he couldn't give any (this was after I paid). To my surprise...

Yeah when I ordered from him I got tons of half Hinos and mostly tiger tooths.....awesome guy! When I get back into the groove of things I plan to breed only hinos and maybe some of the really high ones...SSS+
