  • Velvet and OEBT Crashed

I'm just going to officially declare it today. I have yet to see any Velvets and just last night, I only saw about 2 OEBT left. Don't know what is wrong with the tank, everything is in perfect conditions and it is the tank that I attend to the most, but they all just died off. I spent too much money on the whole system just to let it die off. Well...........needed to cut back since I will be leaving the states soon anyways.

Going to save what I can from that tank, throw them in with the CRS, and hopefully the one female with the eggs will bring back the colony. Tank will be left with the snails and young plecos to take care of. Going to keep that tank for now to grow HC and UG.

Now I understand that caring too much could kill the one you love. Hopefully not caring, like all the other shrimp tanks, will save them.

Halloween is such a terrible night.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Inverts are like canaries in a coal mine.

Temperature has always been a steady 74-76F. Rarely fluctuates all that much. Even after that first cold front we had days ago, it dropped down to only 72F.

        pH was a constant 6.6-7.0

I'm starting to think it was the plants fault. They started disappearing after I began trimming.

Too many. I got HC, UG, Dwarf hairgrass, telanthrea, fissiden fontana, blyxa, anubias nana petite stardust, and the others I forgot their names.
Better to have pictures for identification. I don't know the names for all the background plants.

              Velvet and OEBT Crashed

I wouldn't say there all gone jozle. Like we talked about, the three I put in my 55 and all the shrimplets have done a very good job of hiding in the setup I have. Your loaded with plants. They have plenty more area to hide in yours than there do in mine. I would feed an algae waffer and just watch it for a while. Hopefully if you feed it, it will come.

However if they have past I'm sorry and know the pain. But think about contacting me to buy more. I think I may have found a place in Houston.

Damn that sucks, our OEBT's have been slowly dwindling down to 3 from 5... We shall see... On the positive side our CBS & Cardinals are finally showing signs of breeding so hopefully can add something back into the Houston stockpile of cool shrimps...

I have crypts with my CBS and they are doing fine. Have also had them with cherries, although I have heard the same info a few times. Also have heard that splitting Anubias in a tank with shrimp can be dicey as it exudes some sort of sap they do not appreciate.

I don't have crypts and I haven't touched the annubias. Ok, there is some good news. 5/14 original OEBT are alive and the eggs hatched today after I moved them into the breeder tank that is attached to the 12 gallon long. So hopefully that will bring them all back. I see about 10-15 fries and 3 eggs on the female. Honestly, that 12g long is a miracle tank. EVERYTHING seems to breed in there.
