  • Crayfish Berried

A few months back a bought a few crayfish for my Pbass and Gar as a snack, which they devoured all but one. I didn't pull it out, I figured it could help rid any left over food in the tank. The cray has done a great job. I noticed yesterday that it was sitting on top of the powerhead and she is all berried up.

Could these eggs be fertile? She has been the only cray in the tank for at least three months. Thanks

She is not a marbled cray, I have 9 of them. She is the type sold for crayfish boils at grocery stores. She is about 5 inches

Gotta love when the food you buy has MORE FOOD! Good luck! If you buy a big enough grow out tank you can go into the crawfish business, lol.

If they hatch they will become food.
Just found out I have a berried marbled cray too! (Not to be food)

So your berried non-marbled crayfish could be carrying dud eggs. Or maybe they store sperm? Or maybe she got creative and they are clones like your marbled crayfish. It will be really cool to see what happens. If the eggs turn out to be fertil, you should keep a few of the youngsters and try to figure out if they are all female or if they are male and female. Who knows, maybe you'll have a something new!
