They're crawdads bud, they're going to eat anything they can get their claws on...... :)

We've got an Australian blue lobster who loves her dark little cave, and shrimp pellets.  Not sure if it's the same, but that's what ours likes.

one of the ones I got at the last auction was missing one of its claws, which has grown back and looks to be the same size as the other one.

Mine seem to be shedding once a week or so.  I still havnt seen them shedding... just go look at them and go "woah its soo much bigger now!"

Re: Florida Blue Crays - Babies

I'm thinking of doing a small planted tank (extra for them to munch on) and slowly see what is faster than they are.  I think if I throw some caves in there and make it a weeeee bit busy in spots, I can probably put some small (quick) fish in there with them.  I know that up north the crayfish and the minnows live together just fine....

I'm thinking of trying some small tetras.  Elusive and cheap if you need to replace one.

Should be ok as long as they are fast and dwell mostly in the middle and upper levels of the tank.

We put my crays in my girlfriends tank and to give it a bit more movement we put some bleeding heart tetras in, the fish do go down around the bottom some but seem to stay away from the crays for the most part.

The ones Raul has are Florida crays (Alleni).  They stay much smaller and are more agressive than your Aussie Cray (Cherax).  They also only live 3-4 years.  The Alleni crays will actually hunt fish intentionally.  The Cherax are a bit slower/lazier, usually waiting for a fish to stay right in it's face for too long before thinking about snatching it.  I've seen my platies peck at the substrate right between the claws of my Cherax and he did nothing.  On the other end of the spectrum, my Alleni's will hide in the plants or caves and wait for a fish that's not paying close attention to swim too close - and leap/snatch at it!

Hey everyone, I'm Kim JStriders lady. We met several folks at the mini-auction/meeting.
Just wanted to update on the status of the three craw fish we got at the auction.
They are all doing extremely well in my new aquarium. I'll post some pictures.

I did also have a question, one of my crays recently molted and his coloration is a much paler blue than the other two. I was curious if this was typical because the largest one who also molted a few days ago has spectacular color.

The cup in the tank was what the crays went into for protection during their molts.
So far pretty happy with the tank. The ball in the picture is a marimo ball, I'm sure you guys are familiar.
Those pictures are from last week, so they're not too new however the two larger crays are about 1.75" now and the small one is about an inch. Kinda concerned about the small one...
