I am new to housing nerites (zebra). I know they can occasionally fall off of things and land on their backs...but in two separate tanks recently I am finding them on their backs.
I have 8 total. There are 4 in my plant tank (RCS only) and 4 in my community tank (giant danios, mollies). I found one upside down in the plant tank, flipped him, and hasnt moved in a day or so. The shell looked rotated this morning but was still in the same relative spot. maybe another snail brushed past it. Couldnt tell if it moved when i touched the foot last night.
Found one upside down in the other tank last night, flipped him, hasnt moved as of this morning. And found a different one on its back this morning, flipped him and will check when i get home.
I will have to check the chemistry...but as of about a week ago the pH in these tanks were around 7.6-8.0, and temps are both int he 76 range. The ammonia, nitrites and nitrates were all minimal if above zero at all.
Are these conditions bad for nerites? Or is it normal for them to sit in one spot for a while after flipping. I didnt know how long is long enough before assuming its dead. i guess the "sniff test" would work too...
