  • Lost 1/4 of my cherries today

Lookin for some quick advice, but I woke up to about 10 dead cherry shrimp and the other 20 or so clinging to the top zone or the tank. The 6 juvie endlers are also up there but doing fine. All I did yesterday was a trim and a top off. It's Fluval ebi with eheim 2213. They get an algae wafer every other day (3 o cats in tank as well). Am I over feeding? Only had strip test, and nothing was out of the ordinary. Nitrates and nitrates weren't great but they were on average for the tank. Ideas? I was hoping to transplant some of this colony into another tank today and I just lost 25% of them. Thank you in advance.

Also with rain in the area chloromines could be at play if you didn't pretreat the water

Parameters look to be about the same as they always are. I've never had any issues with this tank, hopefully they pull through. Just did a small water change again as I noticed a few more dead.

Might be lack of oxygen. Does the surface tension get broken by the filter spray? Stick an airstone in there to be safe.

edit- my bad, this is an old thread. Still, this has happened to me.

Well if your tank is cycled you should have no nitrites at all. I think you probably caused a ammonia spike rescaping and the substrate releasing gas. That can poison shrimp quick. I would get a real test kit instead of the strips as those things are not very dependable
